The Story of Appreciated Journey Through Performing FMECA Study of Central Control Computer

This is a story about the journey through performing an FMECA study of the Central Control Computer, the hearth of the avionics modernization, in the scope of C-130 Modernization Project (ERC─░YES). The main objective of this journey was to verify the compliance of the Central Control Computer design to the requirement that "a single failure shall not lead to any CATASTROPHIC or HAZARDOUS effect on the aircraft," which is based on certification regulations. To comply with this requirement, the failures that have catastrophic and hazardous effects on the aircraft, in other words potential design weaknesses, are defined.

The main tool to overcome these weaknesses is the detailed test development process. This process begins with focusing on the detection method column of the FMECA. Every failure that has a critical effect on the aircraft should be detected by means of a test. The confirmation of the links between failures and tests can be performed only with the usage of an FMECA. This story tells us the experiences through performing an FMECA study of the Central Control Computer and test development process supported by the results of FMECA to have a system with higher reliability, testability and safety.
